Signet Jewelers, the largest diamond jewelry retailer in the United States and owner of Kay, Zales and Jared, reported its third straight quarter of positive same-store sales growth in December 2025, and lab-grown diamonds played a big part.
The key numbers
- Same-store sales up 3% in the quarter, with Kay, Zales and Jared together up 6%
- Lab-grown diamonds at about 15% of fashion jewelry sales, nearly double the prior year
- Growth driven especially by younger and mid-tier customers at accessible price points
Why fashion jewelry matters
Engagement rings have led lab-grown adoption for several years. Growth in fashion jewelry (studs, pendants, bracelets and everyday rings) shows lab-grown diamonds moving into everyday gifting and self-purchase. That's a much larger and more frequent market.
What it means for the market
- Lab-grown diamonds are helping retailers fill price gaps and attract new customers.
- Customers are trading up to more diamond per piece.
- The category is broadening beyond bridal into everyday luxury.
Good news for Indian manufacturers
The US is the largest market for India's laboratory-grown diamonds. Strong retail demand from America's biggest jeweler supports steady demand for well-cut stones, and Surat supplies a large share of them.
