The India–Australia Economic Cooperation and Trade Agreement (ECTA) came into force on 29 December 2022, giving Indian exports zero-duty access across Australia's tariff lines. For gems and jewellery, the results are clear.

The numbers

According to GJEPC, India's gem and jewellery exports to Australia rose 16% to US$374 million in FY2025-26. Within that:

  • Gold jewellery exports rose by more than 28%
  • Silver jewellery by nearly 30%
  • Coloured gemstones by almost 36%

GJEPC has also led trade delegations to Australia to build on this momentum, with Indian exhibitors covering natural and laboratory-grown diamonds, gold, silver and contemporary jewellery.
