A tennis bracelet is a flexible line of individually set diamonds. It got its name in 1987, when tennis star Chris Evert paused a match to look for her diamond bracelet. With lab-grown diamonds, this once-exclusive piece has become one of the most popular gifts in the USA, Canada, Australia and beyond.

Total carat weight

Tennis bracelets are described by total carat weight (ct TW):

  • 1–2 ct TW: delicate and everyday
  • 3–5 ct TW: the classic look
  • 7 ct TW and up: bold and glamorous

Stone size and count

The same total weight can come from many small stones or fewer larger ones. Larger individual stones give more sparkle per stone; smaller stones look finer and more flexible.

Settings

  • Four-prong: maximum light and sparkle; the classic choice.
  • Three-prong (martini): stones sit closer together for a continuous look.
  • Bezel: smooth and secure; good for very active wear.
  • Illusion settings: make small stones look larger.

The clasp matters most

Choose a box clasp with a safety catch (or a double safety). It's the most important feature for keeping your bracelet on your wrist.

Length

Measure the wrist and add about 1–2 cm for a comfortable fit. Too loose and it spins; too tight and it pinches.

Quality

For a tennis bracelet, consistency matters more than individual grades. Look for well-matched color (G–H is ideal) and eye-clean clarity across all stones.

Care

Check the clasp and settings regularly, and clean the bracelet every couple of weeks, as the underside collects lotion quickly. See our cleaning guide.
