National jewellery chains
Brands including Michael Hill and Pandora sell lab-grown diamond collections in Canada. Pros: convenient, easy returns, you can try pieces on. Cons: mostly finished designs; limited choice of individual stones.
Independent jewellers
Many independent jewellers now offer lab-grown centre stones for custom engagement rings. Pros: bespoke design, expert advice and local service. Cons: prices vary, so compare quotes for the same specification.
Online retailers
Pros: a huge choice of certified loose stones with 360° videos. Cons: you can't see the stone in person, so check return windows, shipping and duties.
Direct from the manufacturer
Pros: access to exact specifications at wholesale-level pricing, ideal for jewellers and informed buyers. Cons: you manage shipping and import paperwork.
What to check
- Description as lab-grown / lab-created / laboratory-grown, never just "diamond"
- An IGI or GIA report for centre stones, verified online
- Metal purity (10K, 14K and 18K are common in Canada; choose 14K or 18K for rings)
- Warranty, resizing and return policy
Importing into Canada
